Magnesium is a crucial mineral involved in over 600 reactions in the body.   • In one review of 7 studies, supplementing with 300mg of magnesium or more daily over a 12-week period was associated with a reduction in blood pressure in those with poor metabolism.
  • One 12-week study found that those with poor metabolism, when they supplemented their diet with 300mg of magnesium daily, it significantly reduced both their fasting blood sugar levels and post-meal blood sugar levels in comparison to the placebo group.

Dosage

The recommended dietary allowance for magnesium differs depending on your individual needs, age and sex. The recommended daily intake for adults is between 310–420 mg of magnesium per day. With that said, it’s not uncommon for people’s daily magnesium intake to be lower than recommended which can lead to a magnesium deficiency. Low magnesium levels are more common among older adults and women, increasing their risk of developing a magnesium deficiency.
